The Gonzales 'COME AND TAKE IT' Flag was flown by Texans at the Battle of Gonzales, the first military engagement of the Texas Revolution. In 1835 a contingent of Mexican soldiers were sent to retrieve, by force, a cannon that had been loaned to the citizens of Gonzales in 1831 to protect the town from frequent Comanche raids.
