I'm not sure that I've ever seen an unpainted Oaxacan folk art alebrije animal before--usually they are quite brightly painted--but this looks to be an old one and I think much more expressive for its unpainted

say) but also quite a lovely found object hung on the wall

but I think its got a bit of a pretty strong  Arts and Crafts sensibility from a hundred years prior

And this one is of a smaller scale than one typically sees, which makes it feel extra special to me. Bright and crisp color, with the optical effect produced by the rotation of one glass slide while the other remains static when one turns the handle. Lovely. 5 1 2" l including handle x 2" t x 7 16" d. Very good antique condition, handle turns smoothly.
